    From the Editor

Mukoli: A Literary Space for Peace and Transformation The word Mukoli in the Axamiya (Assamese) language means openness, open space, and opening up and defines the magazine’s ethos. Housed in the School of Conflict Management, Peacebuilding, and Development at Kennesaw State University, Mukoli: The Magazine for Peace is more than a literary magazine; it is an active, global platform for nonviolent resistance, transformation, and peace through art and storytelling. At the heart of Mukoli is a commitment to peace wherever conflict fractures connections among individuals, communities, institutions, or the environment. We believe that creative expressions have the power to heal. To that end, we invite contributions from Global Anglophone artists and writers who have faced marginalization and conflict to offer perspectives that are often overlooked in mainstream peace discourse and literary publishing.

    Submissions

At Mukoli: The Magazine for Peace, we open our pages to artists and writers from every corner of the world who believe in the power of creativity to heal, challenge, and transform. We invite submissions of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and multimedia art that engage with the urgent work of changemaking—whether that change unfolds within the self, the community, or the wider world. In a time marked by division and violence, Mukoli stands as a space for openness, dialogue, and imagination. We seek work that dares to envision peace not as the absence of conflict, but as a living, evolving practice rooted in empathy, justice, and connection. We are especially committed to uplifting pluralistic perspectives and global aesthetics, recognizing that peace has many languages, forms, and rhythms.

    Upcoming

As Mukoli enters its third year of engaging with peacebuilding and healing through literature and art, we are excited to announce that publication in our 5th issue will be contest-based. We invite artists and writers from across the world to send us their fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and multimedia art entries that engage with our goal of changemaking – both personal and collective – in an increasingly fractured and violent world. We are especially keen to amplify pluralistic perspectives and global aesthetics. This contest is free to enter, open to all writers and artists worldwide (age 18+) and past contributors to the magazine may enter the contest. First prize winners in each of the four categories will receive $100 + publication, with 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place winners receiving publication. Please see our site for more details.
