    From the Editor

Compose: A Journal of Simply Good Writing is a biannual, online publication that features work by both established and emerging writersCompose: A Journal of Simply Good Writing. Each issue includes a variety of poetry, fiction, nonfiction and artwork, as well as feature-length interviews and articles about the craft of writing. Notable contributors to Compose have included William Logan, Ada Limón, Ian Duhig, Katrina Kenison, Catherine Ryan Hyde, Josh Hanagarne, Marion Roach Smith, Rebecca Rosenblum, Randall Mann, Barbara Abercrombie, Susan Breen, Jeff Goins, Jane Eaton Hamilton and others.

In a review of Compose’s Fall 2013 issue, Kirsten McIlvenna of NewPages.com says, “I appreciate the variety that Compose offers, but I also appreciate a very unique part to the site: the blog. It isn’t the typical journal blog that announces updates, but instead it takes an inside look at individual pieces that were published in the issue where you get to see the inspiration the author had for the piece. And with the quantity of quality writing here, it’s hard to believe this is only Compose’s second issue.” You can read the entire review here: http://www.newpages.com/literary-magazine-reviews/magazine-reviews-archive/2013-12-15/item/5443-compose

Compose receives 300-500 submissions for each reading period and accepts 25-30 of those pieces for publication. Our hardworking team of editors often work one-on-one with writers on accepted pieces to ensure their work is presented in the best possible light.

We look for polished writing that has a distinct voice and leaves us feeling we’ve learned something new about ourselves or the world.
