Information about your publication: Revolution House is the brainchild of a disparate group of writers who came together during the tumultuous early months of 2011, when the MFA application anxiety was high and the lows were lower than low. We had a dream of a sprawling farmhouse, a place where we could all escape the dragging monotony of reality. But it’s difficult to find a house with fourteen bedrooms, so we ended up here instead, building platforms to launch other dreams. Most of us have never met face-to-face. We are a product of the digital age ?- we rely on Facebook, text messages, and e-mails. But we’ll never meet most of you, our writers and readers, face-to-face, either. We rely on the connections forged through thought, through contact that isn’t physical. Together, we will build that house, using words as our tools, as the brick and mortar, until we have created something from nothing at all. Revolution House doesn’t care if you have a hundred publication credits or if this is your first attempt. Send us your poems, your stories, your moments of shining truth, and we will treat them as we want our own to be treated: with respect and compassion. Send us the work that moves you, for better or worse.
What type of submissions you are looking for: Poetry: Please send 3-5 poems at a time. These should be uploaded separately (i.e., upload poem1.rtf, poem2.rtf, and poem3.rtf), but you need only fill out the cover letter/biography section in the submission form once per set of poems. Flash Fiction: We consider flash fiction to be any story of 1000 words or fewer. There is no minimum; if you think you can tell a story in three words, we will read those three words. Short Stories: We will consider short stories up to 7500 words. Creative Nonfiction: There is no minimum word count for CNF submissions, but please respect the 7500 word maximum limit set in place for fiction; it applies here as well. Graphic Stories: We will consider graphic stories of 16 pages or fewer. These must be in the literary tradition. There are no restrictions on the art, though stick figures are probably best left to fellows like Randall Munroe of XKCD.com. Cover Art: We will consider submissions of color/b&w photography, scanned paintings/drawings, and digital art designed to front issues of Revolution House magazine. Note that we’re particularly fond of our house theme, but we will consider everything and anything. Please send high-quality, high-resolution files. You may submit up to three pieces at a time.
Information on Contests: None as of right now, but a few are in the works.
