    About the Publication

The Crane Review is a literary publication open for Asian writers and youth! It was founded in August 2024 by a group of high school writers who wanted to carve out an ethnic enclave for all of the aspiring Asian poets, artists, and storytellers out there. The Crane Review publishes quarterly (every four months) and is a non-paying, completely free organization. It accepts poetry, prose, art, and other/hybrid genres. The magazine’s only strict regulation is that all submissions are done so by ethnically Asian writers and artists; however, there is no barred age range (although we prefer youth/emerging voices). In the end, The Crane Review will do more than just line out the voices of multiple generations around the Asian continent; it will preserve them and the impact they make on others, no matter how dramatic or subdued. The magazine’s eternal goal is to uplift marginalized demographics and create something beautiful and unbridled out of the act.

    Submissions

Our mission is to primarily uplift promising youth writers of Asian descent. In short, we’re looking for cultural lightning: language that stirs our roots and colors the infinite gap between ancestry and reignition. We accept poetry, prose, art, and other/hybrid genres, such as CNF and more. As a magazine that intends to uplift marginalized voices, we particularly do not accept works that endorse or encourage racism, homophobia, bigotry, and more. We are especially drawn to works that highlight many of the emotions and states of living Asian youth experience today: severance, longing, existentialism, and the sense of belonging. Not all works need to be strictly connected to the Asian experience; in the end, what our editors look for is not just whether the elements of the writing or art adhere to one theme but how much of it effectively exposes the writer/artist’s inner psyche to foreign eyes at first glance. Give us your rawest, most authentic selves, and we’ll transfer them to the world for you.

    Upcoming

There are no current upcoming contests that The Crane Review is hosting. However, we do hold submission calls every season. There will be 3 in 2025, starting with the January-April quartet.
