Posted on November 10, 2022January 30, 2023 by Richard

Top 10 Christmas Stories on EWR

Here is our list of the top 10 Christmas stories on our site. For this season we are publishing a lot of holiday related articles, poetry, and stories. We feel many are these lists are currently missing from the web. These stories have a wide range of themes, but all have to do with Christmas. They are all enjoyable, and all will get you going for the holiday season.

The Christmas story is a very old tradition, and some of the stories on this list, particularly those written by Charles Dickens are responsible for some of the cheer we celebrate today.  Dickens wanted to proliferate the traditions and celebrations of Christmas. His stories went a long way foster in today’s Christmas traditions.

1. The Gift of the Magi by O’Henry

This is one of O’Henry’s best stories, and it is one of his most widely known. It is touching and keeps the spirit of Christmas. It is a must read for anyone who is interested in Christmas stories.

2. Marley’s Ghost

Charles Dickens had a deep love of Christmas, and he was trying to get the traditions going in his time and in England. Marly’s Ghost was one of his first efforts. He wanted everyone to keep the spirit alive in the world. Christmas is what it is today because of Dickens.

3. Captain Eli’s Best Ear by Frank Stockton

Unlike the hallmark stories above, this story is not a start of the season, but it is a must read.

4. Markheim by Robert Louis Stevenson

Robert Louis Stevenson is another big player in the history of literature that loved Christmas. So many love this story.

5. The Fir Tree by Hans Christian Anderson

Another starter in the traditions of history. Hans Christian Anderson is one of the most beloved authors who influenced the beginnings of the holiday.

6. The Christmas Tree by Charles Dickens

Another wonderful story by Dickens. He was working very hard to get the Christmas season going. This story again, like others on our list, a must read.

7.At Christmas Time by Anton Chekhov

Chekhov is an unlikely source of Christmas cheer, but the story is very interesting. It’s a fun read.

8. Bertie’s Christmas Eve by Saki

The story is another that advances the wishes and spirit of Christmas.

9. A Kidnapped Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum

The creator of OZ had to do Christmas differently. Santa is kidnapped, of course. It’s a fun read.

10. Santa Claus at Simpson’s Bar by Bret Harte

    Christmas Joy

The smell of hot chocolate with marshmallows, and warm apple pie.
    Christmas Joy,
Seeing snowflakes falling from the clouds so high.
    Christmas Joy,
From the sidewalk Santa’s onto the department stores clutter,
with shoppers with Christmas lists on cellphones and in hand.
    Christmas Joy,
Decorations and the colors red ,silver and gold tinsels and mistletoes.
To eight reindeers and that special one with the nose.
    Christmas Joy,
The cutting of wrapping paper and taping on big bows
    Christmas Joy,
    To finding that
ever so perfect evergreen Christmas tree, and the wreaths on the front, the side on the back doors of homes.
    Christmas Joy,
Garland hanging on the banisters of the hallways and stockings hang up by the fireplace and doorways .
    Christmas Joy,
singing Christmas Carols about that ever so beautiful and magical Nativity scenery.
    Christmas Joy.
