    From the Editor

Radar Poetry is an electronic journal published quarterly in January, April, July, and October. We publish poems from both established and emerging writers and welcome international submissions. We also feature interviews. Some of our recent contributors include Amanda Auchter, MRB Chelko, Karen Craigo, Geffrey Davis, Michael Dickman, and David Roderick, among others. We are interested in the interplay between poetry and visual media. Each issue of Radar features pairings of poetry and artwork, selected by the editors and contributors. We have worked hard to cultivate an accomplished and diverse network of contributing visual artists working in a variety of media.

Radar Poetry currently publishes three issues each year: the Winter Issue, the Summer Issue, and the Conistion Prize Issue. We welcome unsolicited general submissions of poems during our open reading periods: November 1 – January 1 and March 1 – May 1. To submit your work, please read our guidelines. We nominate our authors for major prizes including the Pushcart series, Best New Poets, and the Best of the Net anthology.

    Submissions

A writer-friend of ours once said, “Great poems make everyone sick.” We believe the most successful poems keep you up at night and follow you all day. They might even feel unsettling or unnerving. That’s because great poems make you question everything you thought you knew. We are looking for work that has that effect on us.

    Reading Periods

We welcome submissions of poems during our two open reading periods: November 1 – January 1 and March 1 – May 1.

Given the high volume of submissions Radar happily receives, we can only read non-fee submissions at the beginning of each reading period. Please submit early to take advantage of this opportunity. Once the free submission cap is reached, we will continue to accept $3.00 “Tip Jar” submissions for the remainder of the reading period.

During the summer months, we read and administer the Coniston Prize and are open to prize submissions only. Please see the contest page for details.

See their guidelines page before submitting: https://www.radarpoetry.com/guidelines

    Upcoming

Radar Poetry offers an annual award, the Coniston Prize, for the best group of poems submitted by a female poet writing in English. Through this contest, we hope to support female poets in a meaningful way, and also to recognize a writer with a remarkable body of work, not just one great poem. (The Coniston Prize celebrates a group of 3-6 poems.) The prize is $1,000, and the winner and all finalists are published in our October issue. Our annual reading period for the Coniston Prize is July 1 – September 1. In 2014, our judge is the poet Mary Biddinger. Learn more at http://www.radarpoetry.com/contest.
