Posted on September 6, 2011May 3, 2023 by Every Writer
Poecology is a new literary e-journal for poetry, fiction and nonfiction about ecology, place, and the environment. In an age of increasing disconnection from the physical world and the myriad communities of people, plants, animals and topographies, Poecology seeks to revitalize interconnectedness. The writing published here will meditate on ecological and place-based themes from various perspectives and aesthetics, pushing boundaries and experimenting whenever possible. Poecology publishes emerging and established writers from around the world. Each fall we will hold literary readings in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, where the journal is based. Please visit www.poecology.org for more information.

Whitewash Dreams

Posted on August 2, 2011May 5, 2024 by Every Writer
Whitewash Dreams is an American, online literary magazine founded in 2011 and based on Long Island in Hicksville, New York. The name derives from the poem ?Whitewash Dreams?, written by the founder in his college years. There is one line from the poem that embodies the purpose of this magazine: ?I want to make his existence someone?s poetry.? The goal of Whitewash Dreams is to move our readers with literature, to make them think, and question their own semiotics. Our bi-annual publications include fiction, creative-nonfiction, poetry, essays, and visual artworks. Whitewash Dreams is a place for ideas to converge on all types of literature and to make writer?s words our reader?s poetry.

InDigest (Defunct)

Posted on July 31, 2011April 25, 2023 by Every Writer
InDigest is an online literary magazine and arts blog focused on creating a dialogue between the arts. While we publish on a quarterly schedule, we update our blog daily. InDigest recognizes that art does not take place in a vacuum and that categories are meaningless. We are interested in work that cannot be classified by genre, in good story-telling in all forms, and in artists whose curiosity drives them to push beyond the conventions of their media. You will find this interactive approach manifested in every section of the magazine, especially InDialogue, where artists, musicians, editors, and writers talk directly to each other about their work, as well as about larger questions related to art.

Stone Highway Review

Posted on July 17, 2011February 25, 2025 by Every Writer
I get excited by writing that tries new things. When a writer can make that comparison that I wish I had come up with first. When the poem isn't trying too hard and somehow makes me feel. When a piece is so lovely and gosh darn sensitive to human nature that I can't help but sigh. I love newness, strangeness, but I equally enjoy traditional poetry, language used in a precise and controlled manner, and when a writer creates a world that I have never seen before. It's the kind of writing that you know you like as soon as you read it, that lingers, that makes you come back to it and read it again.

Essays & Fictions (Defunct)

Posted on July 5, 2011April 22, 2023 by Every Writer
Essays & Fictions can be characterized by two points, E & F: E) Essays & Fictions is an online journal of literature and criticism. Established in Midsummer 2007, the co-founding editors set out to exploit the web as a means to distribute their book ?le, which was carefully crafted by The Landscape Press. Opting to reject the crude language of web design as a series of reductive assaults on the eye and the intellect, and declining to de?ne itself by rigid, murky notions of genre and ?xed knowable truth (to which many contemporary literary journals are enslaved, having been conceived, born and delivered in dichotomous form), Essays & Fictions emerged, seeking and publishing exceptional prose that is either essay or ?ction, or both, or neither. F) Essays & Fictions is an online literary journal, and not a depository for corpses.

Revolution House Magazine

Posted on May 18, 2011December 28, 2017 by Every Writer
Revolution House is the brainchild of a disparate group of writers who came together during the tumultuous early months of 2011, when the MFA application anxiety was high and the lows were lower than low. We had a dream of a sprawling farmhouse, a place where we could all escape the dragging monotony of reality. But it's difficult to find a house with fourteen bedrooms, so we ended up here instead, building platforms to launch other dreams. Most of us have never met face-to-face. We are a product of the digital age ?- we rely on Facebook, text messages, and e-mails. But we'll never meet most of you, our writers and readers, face-to-face, either. We rely on the connections forged through thought, through contact that isn't physical. Together, we will build that house, using words as our tools, as the brick and mortar, until we have created something from nothing at all. Revolution House doesn't care if you have a hundred publication credits or if this is your first attempt. Send us your poems, your stories, your moments of shining truth, and we will treat them as we want our own to be treated: with respect and compassion. Send us the work that moves you, for better or worse.

The Subterranean Literary Journal (DEFUNCT)

Posted on May 5, 2011October 23, 2017 by Every Writer
The subterranean literary journal is an independently published literary journal, featuring short stories, poems, autobiographies and art from creative people all over the world. It began in December 2010; created by T. E. Brierley and Liam J. Kelly, two students at university, one studying Graphic design at Huddersfield and the other fine art at Leeds Met. The journals inception was sparked off by a drunken conversation between Tom and Liam, it was one of those nights that included an insane amount of wine and a persistent need to make a lot of noise with any musical instrument we could get our hands on. We decided that we wanted to create something meaningful with the potential to help other writers, a publication where the written word and considered design and typography are held in high regard. We both felt that many publications overlook these and substitute them with sensationalised stories and we strived to create something that would inspire our readers. A non profit literary journal that aims to be self sustaining, selling for the price of costs, it is a place for undiscovered and underground writers to get there work published and hopefully receive the recognition they deserve.

Blue Island Review (Defunct)

Posted on May 3, 2011April 18, 2023 by Every Writer
THE BLUE ISLAND REVIEW is a journal produced by writers living in Lawrence, Kansas. The members of the Blue Island Poetry Group hold these tenets: that poetry is the art of making all suffer; that hypergraphia is a disorder that should be incubated; that the experience of poetry is to induce emotion through image, sound, and association; that narrative is prose, and should remain such in its multiple nefarious forms; that economy of words is most powerful; that love as it is known is a most brutal form of chemical warfare, and that to inflict poetry on the unsuspecting, both in print and in voice, is the highest calling of very sexy people. To that end, we solicit contributions from writers living in (or connected to) northeast Kansas in the hopes that their work reaches more lovers of poetry than it otherwise might.

Silk Road (Defunct)

Posted on April 9, 2011May 5, 2023 by Every Writer
Twice a year Silk Road publishes finely crafted fiction, essays, poetry and translations that give readers a vivid point of exchange or an interaction that could occur only in a specific time and space. This event could be captured in a poem or short story as well as in reportage or travel writing. It could happen in a classroom in New Zealand or on the expanse of the African plains. We welcome work set in any location in the world including the U.S. Anyone from anywhere can enter into the conversation. We all start somewhere, so "place" is the touchstone the magazine uses for the pieces we publish. However we operate with no narrow definition of that word. The writers we feature take our readers somewhere crucial, defining and relevant.

RED OCHRE LiT

Posted on November 24, 2010November 17, 2021 by Every Writer
Red Ochre LiT strives to publish premier, contemporary literature. We are interested in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and short, five poem chapbooks. While our primary goal is to showcase the work of experienced authors, we feature up to three emerging writers in each issue as well. To help give this new population of writers a voice, we randomly select one individual to interview about his/her journey to publication. RED OCHRE LiT was founded on the belief that reading and writing are becoming dying pastimes. In a world where people choose daily to flip through 1,000 channels instead of pages, writers must perfect their work and present it via widely accessible media venues. First and foremost, however, we must lose our fear of rejection and submit polished pieces for publication. Truly, this represents the crux of Red Ochre, resoiling the grains of our literary ancestors and what they worked so hard for. We are a multicultural journal and we venerate voices from around the world. We take pride in our national and international writers, whose work is both innovative and captivating. Anything less, would defeat our purpose. We invite you to read our issues and celebrate yet another wave of writing!

Saraba

Posted on November 1, 2010November 17, 2021 by Every Writer
Saraba is an imprint of Two Iroko Limited whose goal is to create unending voices by encouraging young, previously unheard writers to publish their works, assist emerging writers (i.e. those who have been published little or not at all, whose talent are recognizable and whose works are qualitative) in establishing their voices by creating a platform for their writing to be showcased. Through an actualization of these purposes, Saraba would ensure that there is no generational gap, that succeeding generations of writers in Africa have unending voices.

When your work is accepted, it will go up online shortly. Work will continue to appear in the magazine until the issue's completion by date. This is published and edited solely by Tantra Bensko, MFA, author of Watching the Windows Sleep, and instructor of Experimental Fiction Writing online.
