Anobium is literature; a collusion of molecules, fused into a conceptual (w)hole. As a conceptual entity, Anobium is the headbirth of Benjamin van Loon and “Mary J. Levine,” who doesn’t exist. Anobium is Chicago-based, independent publisher who specializes in the compilation and assemblage of strange, surreal and insectile literature. Our aim is to produce consciously designed and intelligently written contemporary literature. Those who pronounce auguries about the Death of the Book fail to realize that what is death for some is rebirth for others. We believe technology compliments our interaction with artifactual literature; it does not demolish it. Our relatively ‘short’ volumes (80-100 pages) and chapbooks will read easily, store safely and wear evenly - as a good book should.

Apropos Literary Journal

Apropos Literary Journal aims to dispel the commonly held notion that an online journal is less “literary” than a printed one. Although we recognize the merit of the printed page, for an arts community to survive it needs to adapt to our digital culture. Digitally presenting literature and art can not only expand our audience, but our definition of art, encouraging a new generation of artistic expression. Through the use of an online environment, Apropos serves to elevate and facilitate the relationship between art and our digital culture by displaying artistic genres traditionally incompatible with the standard print journal.

Artichoke Haircut

Artichoke Haircut was created not to reaffirm the editors preexisting aesthetic prejudices just the opposite. We were bored of much of the contemporary literature we had been reading, and much of what had been force fed to us by larger literary publications. We wanted to be surprised, and we wanted to publish a magazine that would surprise our readers. For that reason we strive to publish the best work from around the country by up and coming writers who have yet to have their voices heard by a large audience.

autolycus

"autolycus" is an utterly independent literary journal, created by Genie Cartier and Emilio Aldrich. We aim to publish talented unknown writers, and sell the journal online and by consignment at places such as City Lights and the Beat Museum. All proceeds will go to the production costs of the journal. We hope to create something dripping with artistic integrity, with no funding or support of any kind from The Man. Autumn Sky Poetry

Autumn Sky Poetry publishes four issues per year. Every issue contains ten! poems by ten different poets. Each poem is one that caught my eye, held my attention, said something profound. The poets may hail from all across our lovely planet and their poems may speak in many different voices, but each one is worth savoring. We are interested in both formal and free-verse.

Avalon Literary Review

The Avalon Literary Review welcomes work from both published and unpublished writers and poets. We accept submissions of poetry, short fiction and personal essays. The author's voice and point of view should be unique and clear. We seek pieces which spring from the author's life and experiences. Submissions which explore both the sweet and bitter of life, with a touch of humor, are a good fit for our Review. While we appreciate the genres of fantasy, science fiction and horror, our magazine is not the forum for such work.

Badlands

Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus publishes Badlands annually. The publication features original creative work (fiction, non-fiction, and poetry), and specializes in translation. Edited by students at CSUSB’s Palm Desert Campus, Badlands also accepts original visual art submissions, including photography. The publication is made possible by funds from the university’s Instructionally Related Programs Board

Barrier Islands Review

Here at Barrier Islands, we aim to help up and coming writers share those moving images with the world. If you have something to share with us, please read our submissions guidelines to find out what we want. On the first of every month, Barrier Islands will publish a pdf containing the work of 12-15 writers. The best of those pieces will be compiled in a chapbook at the end of the year.

Bayou Magazine

Bayou Magazine is a biannual literary magazine with national circulation published by the Creative Writing Workshop at the University of New Orleans. Each issue contains short fiction, non-fiction and poetry from established, award-winning authors as well as emerging writers. In keeping with the aesthetics and goals of the Creative Writing Workshop, Bayou is especially interested in discovering and showcasing fresh literary voices. The journal awards yearly contests in both fiction and poetry. And in one issue every year, Bayou features the winning one-act play and short story from the annual Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival Competitions. We are a member of the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses, and annually nominate several published works for the Pushcart Prize, O. Henry Award and Best American Essays. Supported by the University of New Orleans English Department and the UNO Foundation, Bayou is a non-profit journal for the arts.
